The Evolution of the computer game – From Pacman to Pokémon
It all started in the 80’s – in the decade that brought computers into the family home, it wasn’t long before the children (and adults!) of the decade were using these first basic computers for gaming. Pacman is probably the most famous and popular of these early computer games, and is now an icon of the 1980’s. Created in Japan in 1980, it quickly took hold on the world as millions began to use computers to play the addictive game! It is still popular today with Pacman apps for phones and Pacman the online game.
By the early 90’s, computer games designers had started to realise that gaming was big business in the world of computers, and the children of the 80’s had grown into the game designing pioneers that saw Nintendo and Sega battle it out to take hold of this big business. Super Mario and Sonic were every kids dream in the early 90’s and the big game titles of Nintendo and Sega respectively, most children of this era had one, or both of the consoles that were designed, unlike the earlier computers of the 1980’s, specifically for gaming. Suddenly, computer games had stepped up to become lands of lights and colour, with worlds that people could absorb themselves in for hours on end!
Sim city and then the Sims became a wildly popular game, allowing players to ‘play god’ with homes and families under their control, players could become deeply immersed in the game. The popularity of The Sims shows no sign of dying out any time soon, with more and more versions and updates to the game being released, which is now onto The Sims 4
Towards the end of the decade, the PC started to become more dominant, with strategy games taking their fair share of the market. Running in parallel to the new gaming world was the up rise of the computer technicians, talented individuals whose jobs were to maintain both your computer at home and at work. If you work in Enfield and you face some technician problems and, London based IT support company http://www.pc-docs.co.uk are at hand should your business need IT support services in Enfield as well, and if your home computer encounters a bug or two then there are many companies scattered around to help, like newcomers CEX.
With the evolution of the smartphone, gameplay changed again and now of course gaming whilst on the move is the next big thing – Pokémon Go being the best example of this! The app has been praised for its ability to get kids of all ages out and about hunting for Pokémon, so the future of computer gaming is looking as bright as it ever was since it began, with a big yellow face being chased by ghosts!
