New Building Materials Sector Campaign Launches
A campaign from the Building Materials Foundation has just been launched with the aim of improving awareness of the building materials sector. The campaign is designed to give the sector a much-needed boost to its profile. It’s also hoped it will help recruit a new generation of young people looking to pursue a career in this growing and very important sector of UK industry.
The Need for an Awareness Campaign
A recent YouGov poll has found that despite a general understanding of the term ‘building materials’ among respondents, there is little enthusiasm for the idea of working in the sector, with 67% saying they had no interest in working in the building materials industry. The survey also showed very little understanding of the types of business that make up the sector, with only 1 in 10 respondents able to identify them. Recruitment has been an increasing problem within the industry, with fewer young people wishing to pursue a career in the building materials sector. However, with UK construction forecasted to grow in the coming years, it’s more important than ever to solve this issue.
The Aims of the Campaign
This long-term programme will hopefully address some of the issues that the sector has with recruitment. Greater awareness of the sector will hopefully encourage a new generation of dynamic and diverse people into the industry. An understanding of just how important this industry is to our society, and how much career scope there is within the industry, may also help draw greater numbers of young people. The range of vacancies is actually far more varied than people realise and includes design and manufacturing as well as builders merchants jobs such as those listed at https://bmcareers.com. Since the launch of the campaign, hundreds of building materials firms have added their company profile to the Builders Materials Careers website, making it easier than ever for people to actively seek out jobs and employers.
This exciting campaign will give the industry a much-needed boost, not only to its general profile but hopefully to the numbers of young people seeking employment in this important sector.
