Replacing broken roof tiles
Broken roof tiles can mean leaks and interior damage, so they need fixing fast. Fortunately, it’s a pretty straightforward repair. You’ll need a pry bar to remove the broken tile, roof sealant and a new tile.
Most roof tiles hook into place over wooden battens, so your first job is to remove the broken tile carefully. Use the pry bar to move the rest of the tiles aside and check them for damage – we’ll look at how to fix cracked tiles in a moment.
Now, apply a roof sealant like www.ct1.com/product-applications/ct1-the-ultimate-roof-sealant/ to the underside of your replacement tile and slot it into place over the batten. Finally, wiggle the original tiles back into place with no noticeable gaps. Check that everything is secure and watertight-job done.
Repairing a cracked tile
Repairing a cracked tile is much simpler and can save you time when you need to stop a leak.
Start by thoroughly cleaning the area around the crack. A wire brush is helpful for clearing away any dust and debris. Now, apply your roof sealant to the crack, ensuring it gets into every millimetre.
If your tile has a larger crack, you may need to remove the surrounding tiles to get a better look and ensure you repair all the damage. You could also apply a flashing strip over the roof sealant to cover all parts of the split.
Knowing how to repair roof tiles can save you time and money. And the proper roof sealant ensures a lasting repair. However, if you’re unsure about clambering onto your roof, or the damage is extensive, call the professionals.
