The purpose of the evaluation of hazards is to provide information needed to identify and manage risks and to determine what actions need to be taken to control or mitigate the effect of any potential occupational health or safety hazard. While these events can occur in any occupational setting, some of the most common hazard categories include chemical spills, exposure to hazardous gases and vapors, exposure to radiation, ingestion of toxins and carcinogens, eye and skin contact, and electrical and electro-mechanical hazards. The frequency of occurrence of these events and the levels of each event type can be compared with expected exposure parameters and other factors to identify risks of interest and formulate policies that will prevent the occurrence of adverse events.
